How to Grow Ginger Garden Plants

It is possible to grow ginger in a variety of climates, even in colder northern regions. In the winter you can start a ginger garden plant in your sunroom, grow-op system, or even on your kitchen table in front of a window.
The ginger plant is native to south Asia, and the ginger spice we use in cooking comes from the rhizome (root) of the plant. This spice has a lot of healthy attributes and a delicious flavor, and all you need to start growing your own ginger plant is a rhizome from the store. Ginger is not hard to get started. In many cases if you just leave the rhizome unattended on your counter or in a fruit bowl, you will see it start to sprout leaves eventually. All you have to do at that point is to break off the part where the leaves are growing from, stick it in a pot, and in the spring it can be transferred to the garden where it can potentially grow to waist height.
